Like Goldilocks taste in soup, sleep is all about figuring out which mattress is just right for you.
If you receive too little of it, it is bad. You’re tired, you are irate and it could be the first step to a ruined day. If you get too much of it, you’re weirdly tired, maybe even a bit lethargic. You may have missed some calls, or perhaps even a meet up with a buddy, and your day’s wasted.
Then there is your personal sleeping style and arrangement to think about — because we all know if we do not sleep the ideal way, which is our own way, then something will fail.
To be able to wake up fully rested, everything needs to be according to plan very much like baking. In the grand scheme of things, mattresses play a huge role in that. It is one of the important ingredients in a good night’s sleep.
And today we’re reviewing one that’s out to prove itself as one of the top mattresses on the market — The Nectar Mattress. It’s a three-layer memory foam mattress with mid-level firmness to cover a wide selection of people’s sleeping preferences. High quality, smartly constructed and designed to help give you the best sleep you can request.
Does it succeed? Is it all that? We are here to help you find out.
Before we begin, in case you’re in a rush, or just prefer a more visual review, here is a video below by Kelly and Mar from the Nectar Sleep YouTube channel:
Building Better Sleep Defective Nectar Mattress
With their headquarters in Palo Alto, California, Nectar Sleep is a mattress and bedding firm that made the Nectar Mattress as their flagship memory foam bed.
The height of the mattress will depend on which type you’ll choose. There’s The Nectar, which is a 12″ profile; the Nectar Premier, which has a 13″ profile; and the Nectar Premier Copper, which has a 14″ profile. All mattresses have the signature three-layer all-foam bed which has a gel memory foam, dynamic support memory foam, and high-core memory foam; these three layers are sandwiched by a quilted cool cover and a Shift-resistant lower cover. Remember, the thickness isn’t everything, so it’s good to dive into the different parts of the mattress.
Let’s dig into each facet, shall we?
Removable and wash friendly, the cover is made from TENCEL lyocell and cotton. You get a soft feel on your body thanks to the fairly breathable and nice to the touch materials of the mattress.
The Layer for Comfort
Helping you distribute your weight for a more comfy sleep, Nectar Mattress has two layers that takes into account comfort and proper sleep posture.
The first layer is a 1-inch top layer that is made of quilted memory foam using a 4PCF Density, while the second layer is 3 inches and is made of 3.5PCF gel memory foam. They were created this way so that when you sleep on it, it feels like its hugging your body. This is turn helps stops pressure points from building up, can help manage bodily aches, and can even help improve spinal alignment for side sleepers.
For the transitional layer, it has a high-density memory foam which measures about 1.75 inches instead of the usual polyfoam other mattresses have. Thanks to this technology the mattress is able to press against your sleeping body without losing any of it’s firmness.
And finally, the support core. Along with the transitional layer, the polyfoam base gives the mattress a firmer base for the softer comfort layers. As a result of this, you receive a balanced, medium-firm sense without undermining the support of the mattress as a whole.
What’s it like?
Giving it a whirl, or more accurately, a rest, will need some prep time when you open it out of the box. We suggest you order it in the morning and begin setting up hours before sleeping because it is going to take exactly that, hours before it’ll expand and reach its entire height.
Like a fine wine, it needs to breathe. Defective Nectar Mattress
After letting it rest out of the box for a few hours, trying it out after a long day of impatiently waiting, you will feel a soft embrace start to surround you. It’s a deep hug feeling to it that those who love sleeping “in” a bed rather than “on” it will love this one.
In terms of firmness, it is around medium firmness — balanced, in that regard. A 6/10 if ever. Firmness though is quite subjective, dependent not just on your preference, but also on your physicality. If you’re a bit on the other hand, this may feel a bit more firm for you than others might.
It’s about Positioning
Just how does the Nectar mattress feel, depending on what position you sleep in.
If you’re a back sleeper, then the Nectar Mattress will feel fantastic for you. There’s no need to worry about comfort as the mattress is designed to keep you in the recommended position Your pelvic region however may need extra support, if it sinks a bit deeper but it’s terrific for back sleepers.
For side sleepers, the memory foam’s sink allows your shoulders and hips to feel relief as you shift your weight down. The uniform pressure release of the mattress really counters the negative effect this sleeping position could have on your body, so this bed is alreadylooking like a wonderful pick for this position.
Stomach sleepers may not want this mattress. You’ll certainly feel a sink in your abdomen area with this position, and you’re going to need to be very careful with that since it may impact your body adversely over time. A firmer mattress might be better suited to people who like sleeping this way.
Having a restless spouse on the same mattress as you won’t be as cumbersome as with another mattress thanks to Nectar’s motion isolation and edge support features, so both you and your partner can wiggle about without the other finding out. Defective Nectar Mattress
Some Bodies to Love
For a more comprehensive breakdown, we are going to be getting into body types and how different body types react differently to the Nectar Mattress.
The Lightweight Sleeper
The lightweight sleeper will find the mattress quite small firm, which is to be expected. They still experienced the “hugging” sensation, but it was not a very deep one. The experience could be described as a sort of “floating” feel to it. Usually, such sleepers require a soft to firm bed if they want that deep body hug.
But if you are a light sleeper and you’re searching for a firm bed that still has a bit of that hugging feel, then the Nectar Mattress would be great.
The Typical Sleeper
The ordinary sleeper thought that the Nectar mattress was just as advertised — firm with a deep, supportive feel that lets you sink in just enough, without it feeling like you’re falling into the bed. They felt that it was a good product because no sagging was felt, the body relief it provided after a long day was superior no matter which sleeping position they went to bed in.
Although still quite supportive, the Nectar Mattress was for those heavy sleepers who wanted something with moderate stability. There will be a bit of sagging when the mattress starts to hug and shape around heavyweight sleepers, but other than that, if this firmness is your preference, it is a great pick.
Sleeping on the Nectar Mattress
Although we tried to get to as much as we can with our review, we know actually having the ability to feel the mattress for yourself, giving it a real test is the best way to determine if it is for you. As much as we would like to give you a hard recommendation, it’s still all about your own preference and we can only act as mediators of information.
Your right mix of everything you need and want to feel each night.
As such, there are generally 90 to 120-day sleep trials for most mattresses. Nectar wanted to one-up that, and provides a 365 day evaluation period before fully committing to it. It’s like properly courting your mattress over a long period of time instead of just after a few months of seeing each other.
It’s a wonderful comfort to know that that option is there, only in case of anything.
