Before we begin, in case you’re in a hurry, or just prefer a more visual review, here is a video below by Kelly and Mar from the Nectar Sleep YouTube channel:

Making Sleep Better Does the Nectar Mattress Need a Boxspring

With their headquarters in Palo Alto, California, Nectar Sleep is a bedding and mattress firm that made the Nectar Mattress as their flagship memory foam mattress.

The height of the mattress will depend on which type you’ll choose. There’s The Nectar, which is a 12″ profile; the Nectar Premier, which has a 13″ profile; and the Nectar Premier Copper, which has a 14″ profile. All mattresses have the patented three-layer all-foam bed which has a gel memory foam, dynamic support memory foam, and high-core memory foam; these three layers are sandwiched by a quilted cool cover and a Shift-resistant lower cover. Remember, the thickness isn’t everything, so it’s good to dive into the different parts of the mattress.

Let’s dig into each facet, shall we?

The Duvet

Removable and wash friendly, the cover is made from TENCEL lyocell and cotton. Since both of the materials are pretty breathable and feel nice to the touch, you get a wonderful feel on your body.

The Layer for Comfort

Two comfort layers work hand-in-hand to give you not just comfort, but also a balance that helps you distribute your weight evenly throughout the whole mattress.

The first layer is a 1-inch top layer that’s made of quilted memory foam with a 4PCF Density, while the next layer is 3 inches and is made of 3.5PCF gel memory foam. They were designed this way so that when you sleep on it, it seems like its embracing your body. This is turn helps stops pressure points from building up, can help handle bodily aches, and may even help improve spinal alignment for side sleepers.

Transitional Layer

For the transitional layer, it has a high-density memory foam that measures about 1.75 inches rather than the usual polyfoam other mattresses have. Thanks to this technology the mattress is able to press against your sleeping body without losing any of it’s firmness.

Support Layer

And finally, the support center. It contains a 2.2 PCF High-density polyfoam that is about 5.25 inches thick. Along with the transitional layer, the polyfoam base gives the mattress a firmer base for the softer comfort layers. As a result of this, you get a balanced, medium-firm sense without undermining the support of the mattress as a whole.

What’s it like?

Taking it out for a spin — or rather, for a sleep — takes a while right out of the box. We suggest you purchase it in the morning and begin setting up hours before sleeping since it is going to take exactly that, hours before it’ll expand and reach its full height.

Like a good wine, it first needs to breathe. Does the Nectar Mattress Need a Boxspring

After letting it rest out of the box for a few hours, trying it out after a long day of impatiently waiting, you will feel a soft embrace start to surround you. It has a deep hug feeling to it that people who love sleeping “in” a bed instead of “on” it will love this one.

Concerning firmness, it is around medium firmness — balanced, in that respect. A 6/10 if ever. Firmness though is quite subjective, dependent not only on your taste, but also on your physicality. If you are a bit on the other hand, this may feel somewhat more firm for you than others would.

Positioning is the Key

So how does the Nectar mattress feel, depending on what position you sleep in.

If you’re a back sleeper, then the Nectar Mattress will feel fantastic for you. It gives you the support you need while keeping your spine in a nice neutral position. Your pelvic region however may need additional support, if it sinks a bit deeper but otherwise, it’s great for back sleepers.

For side sleepers, the memory foam’s sink allows your shoulders and hips to feel relief as you shift your weight down. This mattress is a great option for side sleepers as the uniform pressure release of the bed counters the harmful effects side sleeping might have.

Stomach sleepers may not want this mattress. You’ll certainly feel a sink in your abdomen area with this place, and you’re going to need to be very careful with that because it may impact your body adversely over time. For those who sleep on their stomachs, we recommend that you opt for a mattress that is firmer than this one as it may lead to adverse effects.

Having a restless partner on the same bed as you won’t be as annoying as with another mattress thanks to Nectar’s motion isolation and edge support features, so both you and your partner can wiggle about without the other finding out. Does the Nectar Mattress Need a Boxspring

Some Bodies to Love

For a more comprehensive breakdown, we’ll be getting into body types and how different body types respond differently to the Nectar Mattress.

The Lightweight Sleeper

As expected, a light sleeper will find the Nectar to be firm on the body. They experienced the “hugging” sensation, but it was not a very profound one. The experience could be described as a sort of “floating” feel to it. Usually, such sleepers require a soft to firm bed if they want that deep body hug.

But if you are a light sleeper and you’re searching for a firm mattress which still has a little that hugging feel, then the Nectar Mattress will be great.

The Typical Sleeper

The ordinary sleeper thought that the Nectar mattress was just as advertised — company with a deep, supportive feel that lets you sink in just enough, without it feeling like you’re falling into the bed. There was no sagging, superior body relief and regardless of the sleeping place, it was great.

Heavyweight Sleepers

Although still very supportive, the Nectar Mattress was more for those heavy sleepers who wanted something with medium firmness. There’ll be a little sagging when the mattress starts to hug and shape around heavyweight sleepers, but besides that, if this firmness is your preference, it is a wonderful pick.

The Sleep Test

Although we tried to cover as much as we can with our review, we know really having the ability to feel the mattress for yourself, giving it a real test is the best method to determine whether it’s for you. We can only act as a guide because, at the end of the day, it is all about your preference.

Your right mix of what you want and want to feel every night.

As such, there are usually 90 to 120-day sleep trials for most mattresses. Nectar desired to one-up that, and provides a 365 day evaluation period before fully committing to it. It’s like properly getting to know your mattress over a long period of time instead of just after a few weeks of seeing each other.

It’s a great comfort to know that option is there, only in case of anything.

Final Thoughts: Where Perfect Sleep Begins Does the Nectar Mattress Need a Boxspring

If you’re not looking for a particularly squishy mattress, and possibly if you’re not a stomach sleeper then this could be the next and best addition to your home.
