Building Better Sleep Nectar Mattress Thickness Guide

With their headquarters in Palo Alto, California, Nectar Sleep is a bedding and mattress firm that designed the Nectar Mattress as their flagship memory foam bed.

Nectar Sleep has three mattresses with different profiles: The Nectar, which has a 12” profile; the Nectar Premier, which has a 13” profile; and the Nectar Premier Copper, which has a 14” profile. And as mentioned earlier it’s a three-layer, all-foam bed. It consists of a quilted cover and breathable base later, with the three layers of foam between: gel-infused memory foam, support memory foam, and high-density polyfoam. Remember, the thickness isn’t everything, so it’s good to dive into the different parts of the mattress.

Let’s dig into every aspect, shall we?

The Cover

Removable and wash friendly, the cover is made from TENCEL lyocell and cotton. You get a wonderful feel on your body thanks to the fairly breathable and nice to the touch components of the mattress.

Comfort Layer

Two comfort layers work hand-in-hand to provide you not just comfort, but also a balance that helps you distribute your weight evenly throughout the whole mattress.

The first layer is a 1-inch top layer that is made of quilted memory foam using a 4PCF Density, while the second layer is 3 inches and is made of 3.5PCF gel memory foam. Like a gentle embrace, this layer was made so that it feels like you are being embraced This is turn helps stops pressure points from building up, helps manage bodily aches, and can help improve spinal alignment for side sleepers.

Transitional Layer

For the transitional layer, it has a high-density memory foam which measures about 1.75 inches rather than the usual polyfoam other mattresses have. This improvement of the foam enhances how the mattress hugs your body without sagging too much.

Support Layer

And finally, the support center. It contains a 2.2 PCF High-density polyfoam that is about 5.25 inches thick. Together with the transitional layer, the polyfoam base gives the mattress a firmer foundation for the softer comfort layers. Because of this, you receive a balanced, medium-firm feel without compromising the support of the mattress as a whole.

How Does It Feel?

Giving it a whirl, or more accurately, a rest, will require some prep time when you take it out of the box. We suggest you order it in the morning and begin setting up hours before sleeping since it will take exactly that, hours before it is going to expand and reach its full height.

Like a fine wine, it needs to breathe. Nectar Mattress Thickness Guide

Once you lie down, give it a few seconds and before you know it, the memory foam will begin kicking into high gear and you’ll feel a soft embrace over your body. It has a deep hug feeling to it that people who love sleeping “in” a bed instead of “on” it will love this one.

Concerning firmness, it is around medium firmness — balanced, in that respect. A 6/10 if ever. Firmness though is very subjective, dependent not just on your preference, but also on your physicality. If you’re a bit on the other hand, this may feel a bit more firm to you than others might.

Positioning is the Key

So how does the Nectar mattress feel, that depends on what position you sleep in.

If you are a back sleeper, then the Nectar Mattress will feel fantastic for you. There’s no need to think about posture as the mattress is designed to keep you in the perfect position Your pelvic region however may need extra support, if it sinks a bit deeper but otherwise, it’s terrific for back sleepers.

For side sleepers, the memory foam’s sink allows your shoulders and hips to feel relief as you shift your weight down. This mattress is a great option for side sleepers as the uniform pressure release of the bed counters the adverse effects side sleeping might have.

Stomach sleepers may not choose this mattress. You’ll certainly feel a sink in your abdomen area with this position, and you’re going to need to be very careful with this because it might affect your body adversely with time. A firmer mattress may be better suited to those who enjoy sleeping this way.

Having a restless partner on the same bed as you won’t be as cumbersome as with another mattress thanks to Nectar’s motion isolation and edge support features, so both you and your partner can wiggle about without the other knowing. Nectar Mattress Thickness Guide

Some Bodies to Love

For a more comprehensive breakdown, we are going to be getting into body types and how different body types react differently to the Nectar Mattress.

The Lightweight Sleeper

The lightweight sleeper will find the mattress to be a small firm, which is to be expected. They experienced the “hugging” sensation, but it was not a very deep one. The experience can be described as a sort of “floating” feel to it. Usually, these kinds of sleepers need a soft to firm bed if they need that deep body hug.

But if you’re a light sleeper and you’re searching for a firm bed that still has a bit of that hugging feel, then the Nectar Mattress would be great.

The Typical Sleeper

The ordinary sleeper thought that the Nectar mattress was just as advertised — firm with a deep, supportive feel that lets you sink in just enough, without it feeling like you’re falling into the bed. They felt that it was a good product because no sagging was felt, the body relief it provided after a long day was superior no matter which sleeping position they went to bed in.

Heavyweight Sleepers

For heavy sleepers who want for something more firm, the Nectar Mattress may be the perfect fitThere’ll be a bit of sagging when the mattress starts to hug and shape around heavyweight sleepers, but other than that, if this stability is your preference, it is a wonderful pick.

Sleeping on the Nectar Mattress

Although we tried to cover as much as we could with our trial we know actually being able to feel the mattress for yourself, giving it an actual test is the best method to ascertain whether it is for you. We can only act as a guide since, in the end of the day, it is all about your preference.

Your right mix of what you need and want to feel every night.

As such, there are generally 90 to 120-day sleep trials for most mattresses. Nectar wanted to one-up that, and offers a 365 day evaluation period before fully committing to it. Think of it as getting to know your mattress long term before proposing, rather than popping the question after 3 or 4 months.

It’s a great comfort to know that option is there, only in the event of anything.
