Sleep is not a science, nor is it an art. It’s a matter of precision, of getting it just right.

If you receive too little of it, it is bad. You’re tired, you are irate and it might be the first step to a ruined day. If you get too much of it, you’re weirdly tired, perhaps even a little lethargic. Lacking sleep could cause you to miss out a perfectly nice day of activities.

Then there’s your personal sleeping style and arrangement to consider — because all of us know if we do not sleep the right way, which is our own way, then something will fail.

Much like baking, you need to get everything right, to come away with that perfect batch of “sleep.” In the grand scheme of things, mattresses play a large role in that. It’s one of the key ingredients in a good night’s sleep.

And today we are reviewing one that’s out to establish itself as one of the best mattresses on the market — The Nectar Mattress. Building Better Sleep Nectar Mattress Unpacking and Set Up

With the Nectar Mattress as their flagship product, Nectar Sleep is a mattress and bedding company that is stationed in Palo Alto, California.

The height of the mattress will depend on which type you’ll choose. There’s The Nectar, which is a 12″ profile; the Nectar Premier, which has a 13″ profile; and the Nectar Premier Copper, which has a 14″ profile. All mattresses have the signature three-layer all-foam bed which has a gel memory foam, dynamic support memory foam, and high-core memory foam; these three layers are sandwiched by a quilted cool cover and a Shift-resistant lower cover. Remember, the thickness isn’t everything, so it’s good to dive into the different parts of the mattress.

Let’s dig into each aspect, shall we?

The Duvet

Removable and wash friendly, the cover is made of TENCEL lyocell and cotton. You get a wonderful feel on your body thanks to the pretty breathable and nice to the touch materials of the mattress.

Comfort Layer

Two comfort layers work hand-in-hand to provide you not only comfort, but also a balance that helps you distribute your weight evenly throughout the entire mattress.

The first layer is a 1-inch top layer that is made from quilted memory foam with a 4PCF Density, while the second layer is 3 inches and is made of 3.5PCF gel memory foam. They were designed this way so that when you sleep on it, it feels like its hugging your body. This is turn helps stops pressure points from building up, can help manage bodily aches, and may even help improve spinal alignment for side sleepers.

Transitional Layer

For the transitional layer, it has a high-density memory foam which measures about 1.75 inches rather than the usual polyfoam other mattresses have. Thanks to this technology the mattress is capable of hugging your sleeping body without losing any of it’s firmness.

Support Layer

And finally, the service center. Together with the transitional layer, the polyfoam base gives the mattress a firmer foundation for the softer comfort layers. Because of this, you receive a balanced, medium-firm sense without undermining the support of the mattress as a whole.

What’s it like?

Taking it out for a spin — or rather, for a sleep — takes some time right out of the box. We suggest you purchase it in the morning and begin setting up hours before sleeping since it is going to take exactly that, hours before it is going to expand and reach its entire height.

Like a fine wine, it first needs to breathe. Nectar Mattress Unpacking and Set Up

As soon as you lie down, give it a few moments and before you know it, the memory foam will start kicking into high gear and you will feel a soft embrace over your body. It’s a deep hug feeling to it that those who love sleeping “in” a bed rather than “on” it will love this one.

Concerning firmness, it’s around medium firmness — balanced, in that respect. A 6/10 if ever. Firmness though is quite subjective, dependent not just on your preference, but also on your physicality. If you are a bit on the other hand, this may feel a bit more firm for you than others might.

It’s All About Positioning

Just how does the Nectar mattress feel, depending on what position you sleep in.

If you’re a back sleeper, then the Nectar Mattress will feel fantastic for you. There’s no need to think about comfort as the mattress is designed to keep you in the perfect position Your lumbar area however may need additional support, in case it sinks a bit deeper but it’s great for back sleepers.

For side sleepers, the memory foam’s conforms itself which allows your shoulders and hips to feel relief as you shift your weight down. This mattress is a great choice for side sleepers as the uniform pressure release of the bed counters the adverse effects side sleeping might have.

Stomach sleepers may not choose this mattress. You’ll certainly feel a sink into your abdomen area with this place, and you’re going to need to be very careful with that because it might affect your body adversely with time. A firmer mattress might be better suited to people who enjoy sleeping this way.

Having a restless partner on the same bed as you won’t be as annoying as with another mattress thanks to Nectar’s motion isolation and edge support features, so both you and your partner can wiggle about without the other finding out. Nectar Mattress Unpacking and Set Up

Body Types for Nectar

For a more comprehensive breakdown, we are going to be getting into body types and how different body types react differently to the Nectar Mattress.

The Lightweight Sleeper

As expected, a light sleeper will find the Nectar to be tough on the body. They experienced the “hugging” sensation, but it wasn’t a very profound one. The experience can be described as a sort of “floating” feel to it. Usually, such sleepers need a soft to firm bed if they need that deep body hug.

However, if you’re a light sleeper and you’re looking for a firm mattress which still has a bit of that hugging feel, then the Nectar Mattress will be great.

The Typical Sleeper

The average sleeper thought that the Nectar mattress was exactly as advertised — company with a deep, supportive feel that lets you sink in just enough, without it feeling like you are falling to the bed. They felt that it was a good product because no sagging was felt, the body relief it provided after a long day was superior no matter which sleeping position they went to bed in.

Heavy Sleepers

Although still very supportive, the Nectar Mattress was for those heavy sleepers who wanted something with medium firmness. There’ll be a little sagging when the mattress starts to hug and shape around heavyweight sleepers, but besides that, if this stability is your preference, it’s a wonderful pick.

Sleeping on the Nectar Mattress

Although we tried to get to as much as we can with our reviewwe know actually being able to feel the mattress on your own, giving it a real test is the best method to determine whether it is for you. As much as we would like to give you a decision, it’s still all about your own preference and we can only act as mediators of information.

Your right mix of everything you need and want to feel each evening.

As such, there are usually 90 to 120-day sleep trials for most mattresses. Nectar desired to one-up that, and offers a 365 day test period before fully committing to it. Think of it as dating your mattress long term before putting a ring on it, rather than popping the question after 3 or 4 weeks.

It’s a wonderful comfort to know that that option is there, only in the event of anything.
