Like Goldilocks preference in soup, sleep is all about figuring out which mattress is just right for you.
If you get too little of it, it is bad. You’re tired, you are irate and it could be the first step to a ruined day. If you get too much of it, you are weirdly tired, maybe even a bit lethargic. You might have missed some calls, or perhaps even a meet up with a buddy, and your day’s wasted.
Then there’s your individual sleeping style and arrangement to think about — because we all know if we do not sleep the right way, which is our own way, then something will go wrong.
Much like baking, you have to get everything right, to come away with that perfect batch of “sleep.” In the grand scheme of things, mattresses play a large role in that. It is one of the important ingredients in a fantastic night’s sleep.
And today we’re reviewing one that is out to prove itself as one of the best mattresses on the market — The Nectar Mattress. It is a three-layer memory foam mattress with mid-level toughness to cover a wide range of people’s sleeping preferences. High quality, smartly constructed and designed to help give you the best sleep you can request.
Does it succeed? Is it all that? We are here to help you find out.
Before we begin, in case you’re in a hurry, or just prefer a more visual review, here is a video below by Kelly and Mar from the Nectar Sleep YouTube channel:

With their headquarters in Palo Alto, California, Nectar Sleep is a bedding and mattress firm that made the Nectar Mattress as their flagship memory foam bed.
The height of the mattress will depend on which type you’ll choose. There’s The Nectar, which is a 12″ profile; the Nectar Premier, which has a 13″ profile; and the Nectar Premier Copper, which has a 14″ profile. All mattresses have the signature three-layer all-foam bed which has a gel memory foam, dynamic support memory foam, and high-core memory foam; these three layers are sandwiched by a quilted cool cover and a Shift-resistant lower cover. Remember, the thickness isn’t everything, so it’s good to dive into the different parts of the mattress.
Let’s dig into each facet, shall we?
Removable and wash friendly, the cover is made of TENCEL lyocell and cotton. You get a soft feel on your body thanks to the fairly breathable and nice to the touch components of the mattress.
Two comfort layers work hand-in-hand to provide you not only comfort, but also a balance that helps you distribute your weight evenly throughout the whole mattress.
The first layer is a 1-inch top layer that is made of quilted memory foam using a 4PCF Density, while the next layer is 3 inches and is made of 3.5PCF gel memory foam. They were created this way so that when you sleep on it, it feels like its embracing your body. This is turn helps stops pressure points from building up, helps manage bodily aches, and may even help improve spinal alignment for side sleepers.
For the transitional layer, it’s a high-density memory foam that measures about 1.75 inches rather than the typical polyfoam other mattresses have. This improvement of the foam enhances the way the mattress hugs against your body without sagging too much.
And finally, the support core. Together with the transitional layer, the polyfoam base gives the mattress a firmer foundation for the softer comfort layers. As a result of this, you receive a balanced, medium-firm sense without undermining the support of the mattress as a whole.
How Does It Feel?
Giving it a whirl, or more accurately, a rest, will need some prep time when you take it out of the packaging. We suggest you order it in the morning and begin setting up hours before sleeping since it will take precisely that, hours before it’ll expand and reach its full height.
Like a good wine, it needs to breathe. Nectar Split King Adjustable Bed
As soon as you lie down, give it a few seconds and before you know it, the memory foam will begin kicking into high gear and you’ll feel a soft embrace over your body. It’s a deep hug feeling to it that people who love sleeping “in” a bed instead of “on” it will really enjoy this one.
In terms of firmness, it’s around medium firmness — balanced, in that regard. A 6/10 if ever. Firmness though is quite subjective, dependent not just on your taste, but also on your physicality. If you are a bit on the lighter side, this may feel somewhat more firm to you than others might.
It’s All About Positioning
So how does the Nectar mattress feel, depending on what position you sleep in.
If you are a back sleeper, then the Nectar Mattress will feel fantastic for you. There’s no need to think about posture as the mattress is designed to keep you in the perfect position Your pelvic region however may need additional support, in case it sinks a bit deeper but otherwise, it’s great for back sleepers.
For side sleepers, the memory foam’s sink allows your shoulders and hips to feel relief as you shift your weight down. This mattress is a great choice for side sleepers as the uniform pressure release of the bed counters the adverse effects side sleeping might have.
Stomach sleepers may not want this mattress. You’ll certainly feel a sink into your abdomen area with this place, and you’re going to have to be very careful with that because it might affect your body adversely over time. A firmer mattress may be better suited to those who like sleeping this way.
Having a restless partner on the same bed as you won’t be as annoying as with another mattress thanks to Nectar’s motion isolation and edge support features, so both you and your partner can wiggle about without the other finding out. Nectar Split King Adjustable Bed
Some Bodies to Love
For a more comprehensive breakdown, we are going to be getting into body types and how different body types react differently to the Nectar Mattress.
The Lightweight Sleeper
As expected, a light sleeper will find the Nectar to be firm on the body. They still experienced the “hugging” sensation, but it wasn’t a very deep one. The experience can be described as a kind of “floating” feel to it. Usually, such sleepers require a soft to firm bed if they need that deep body hug.
But if you’re a light sleeper and you’re searching for a firm bed that still has a little that hugging feel, then the Nectar Mattress will be great.
The Typical Sleeper
The ordinary sleeper discovered that the Nectar mattress was exactly as advertised — firm with a deep, supportive feel that lets you sink in just enough, without it feeling like you’re falling into the bed. There was no sagging, good body relief and no matter the sleeping place, it was good.
Although still quite supportive, the Nectar Mattress was for those heavy sleepers who wanted something with moderate stability. There’ll be a little sagging when the mattress begins to hug and shape around heavyweight sleepers, but other than that, if this stability is your preference, it’s a wonderful pick.
Sleeping on the Nectar Mattress
Although we tried to cover as much as we could with our trial we know really being able to feel the mattress for yourself, giving it an actual test is the best way to determine whether it’s for you. We can only act as a guide because, in the end of the day, it is all about your own preference.
Your right mix of what you want and want to feel each night.
As such, there are usually 90 to 120-day sleep trials for most mattresses. Nectar desired to one-up that, and offers a 365 day evaluation period before fully committing to it. Think of it as dating your mattress long term before proposing, as opposed to popping the question after 3 or 4 weeks.
It’s a great comfort to know that option is there, only in case of anything.
