Like Goldilocks preference in soup, sleep is all about finding out which mattress is just right for you.
If you receive too little of it, it is bad. You’re tired, you’re irate and it might be the first step to a ruined day. If you get too much of it, you’re weirdly tired, maybe even a bit lethargic. Lacking sleep could cause you to miss out a perfectly nice day of commitments.
Preferred sleeping positions also affect the quality of sleep we get as not sleeping the perfect way can affect how restful our sleep is.
Much like baking, you have to get everything right, to come away with that perfect batch of “sleep.” In the grand scheme of things, mattresses play a huge role in that. It’s one of the key ingredients in a fantastic night’s sleep.
And today we’re reviewing one that’s out to prove itself as one of the top mattresses out there — The Nectar Mattress. It is a three-layer memory foam mattress with mid-level firmness to cover a wide selection of people’s sleeping preferences. High quality, smartly constructed and designed to help give you the best sleep you can ask for.
Does it succeed? Is it all that? We are here to help you find out.
Before we begin, in case you’re in a rush, or just prefer a more visual review, here is a video below by Kelly and Mar from the Nectar Sleep YouTube channel:
Making Sleep Better Set Up Nectar Mattress
With their headquarters in Palo Alto, California, Nectar Sleep is a bedding and mattress company that designed the Nectar Mattress as their flagship memory foam bed.
The height of the mattress will depend on which type you’ll choose. There’s The Nectar, which is a 12″ profile; the Nectar Premier, which has a 13″ profile; and the Nectar Premier Copper, which has a 14″ profile. All mattresses have the signature three-layer all-foam bed which has a gel memory foam, dynamic support memory foam, and high-core memory foam; these three layers are sandwiched by a quilted cool cover and a Shift-resistant lower cover. Remember, the thickness isn’t everything, so it’s good to dive into the different parts of the mattress.
Let’s dig into every facet, shall we?
Removable and wash friendly, the cover is made of TENCEL lyocell and cotton. Since both of the materials are pretty breathable and feel nice to the touch, you get a nice feel on your body.
The Layer for Comfort
Two comfort layers work hand-in-hand to provide you not just comfort, but also a balance that makes it possible to distribute your weight evenly throughout the entire mattress.
The first layer is a 1-inch top layer that’s made from quilted memory foam using a 4PCF Density, while the next layer is 3 inches and is made of 3.5PCF gel memory foam. Like a gentle embrace, this layer was made so that it emulats like you are being hugged This is turn helps stops pressure points from building up, can help handle bodily aches, and can help improve spinal alignment for side sleepers.
For the transitional layer, it has a high-density memory foam that measures about 1.75 inches rather than the typical polyfoam other mattresses have. Thanks to this technology the mattress is able to press against your sleeping body without losing any of it’s firmness.
And finally, the support center. It contains a 2.2 PCF High-density polyfoam that’s about 5.25 inches thick. Together with the transitional layer, the polyfoam base gives the mattress a firmer base for the softer comfort layers. Because of this, you get a balanced, medium-firm sense without compromising the support of the mattress as a whole.
How Does It Feel?
Taking it out for a spin — or rather, for a sleep — takes a while right from the box. We suggest you order it in the morning and begin setting up hours before sleeping because it will take exactly that, hours before it is going to expand and reach its entire height.
Like a good wine, it needs to breathe. Set Up Nectar Mattress
After letting it rest out of the box for a few hours, lying down after a long day of patiently waiting, you will feel a tender embrace start to surround you. It has a deep embrace feeling to it that people who love sleeping “in” a bed instead of “on” it will love this one.
In terms of firmness, it’s around medium firmness — balanced, in that regard. A 6/10 if ever. Firmness though is very subjective, dependent not only on your preference, but also in your physicality. If you’re a bit on the lighter side, this may feel a bit more firm to you than others might.
It’s All About Positioning
Just how does the Nectar mattress feel, that depends on what position you sleep in.
If you are a back sleeper, then the Nectar Mattress will feel fantastic for you. It gives you the support you need while keeping your spine in a perfect neutral position. Your lumbar area however may need extra support, if it sinks a bit deeper but otherwise, it’s terrific for back sleepers.
For side sleepers, the memory foam’s conforms itself which allows your shoulders and hips to feel relief as you shift your weight down. The uniform pressure release of the mattress really counters the negative effect this sleeping place could have on your body, so this bed is alreadylooking like a wonderful choice for this position.
Stomach sleepers may not want this mattress. You’ll definitely feel a sink in your abdomen area with this position, and you’re going to have to be very careful with that because it might impact your body adversely over time. A firmer mattress may be better suited to people who like sleeping this way.
Having a restless partner on the same mattress as you won’t be as cumbersome as with another mattress thanks to Nectar’s motion isolation and edge support features, so both you and your partner can wiggle about without the other finding out. Set Up Nectar Mattress
Some Bodies to Love
For a more comprehensive breakdown, we are going to be getting into body types and how different body types respond differently to the Nectar Mattress.
The Lightweight Sleeper
As expected, a light sleeper will find the Nectar to be firm on the body. They still experienced the “hugging” sensation, but it was not a very profound one. The experience can be described as a sort of “floating” feel to it. Usually, such sleepers require a soft to firm bed if they want that deep body hug.
But if you’re a light sleeper and you’re searching for a firm mattress which still has a little that hugging feel, then the Nectar Mattress will be great.
The Typical Sleeper
The average sleeper thought that the Nectar mattress was exactly as advertised — company with a deep, supportive feel that lets you sink in just enough, without it feeling like you are falling to the bed. They felt that it was a good product because no sagging was felt, the body relief it provided after a long day was great no matter which sleeping position they went to bed in.
For heavy sleepers who desire for something more firm, the Nectar Mattress may be the perfect fitThere’ll be a little sagging when the mattress starts to hug and shape around heavyweight sleepers, but other than that, if this stability is your preference, it’s a wonderful pick.
The Sleep Test
Although we tried to get to as much as we could with our reviewwe know really being able to feel the mattress on your own, giving it an actual test is the best method to determine whether it is for you. We can only act as a guide since, at the end of the day, it is all about your own preference.
Your right mix of what you want and want to feel every night.
As such, there are usually 90 to 120-day sleep trials for most mattresses. Nectar wanted to one-up that, and provides a 365 day test period before fully committing to it. It’s like properly courting your mattress over a long period of time instead of just after a few months of seeing each other.
It’s a wonderful comfort to know that option is there, just in the event of anything.
